Just a nice photo from the A.R.H.S. files of a westbound Lehigh Valley train at their Lehighton (PA) Tower, coming down the ramp off the CNJ main to enter the LV main. The LV and CNJ worked out a plan in 1965 to consolidate sections of their mostly parallel main lines, retaining the best of each to the advantage of both roads. At the photographer's left, the CNJ's main crossed over the LV main and when it was decided that the LV's main was the better choice west through the Lehigh River gorge, a ramp was built here to connect the lines. The tracks in the foreground are the LV main, rendered surplus to the right (east) through use of the CNJ's main.

In a note of interesting trivia, the Milwaukee Road's busy Tower A-2 (aka Western Avenue) in Chicago was built in 1938 to PRR standards. The MILW's main line didn't enter Union Station, but rather ended at A-2 where MILW trains then rode the rails of the PRR's Panhandle Division for the last 2.9 miles into Union Station. As built, A-2 had an 83 lever electropneumatic interlocking machine to handle a major crossing of MILW and C&NW mainlines, as well as the PRR connection. [Source: Railroad Signaling by Brian Solomon, c. 2003] [Photo not mine] I think A-2 is still manned, but I'm not entirely sure.

Geeps shove mid train, as a east makes its way toward the Tehachapi Loop. Seen here at Woodford. 1987

Commuter rail in Sydney, NSW, Austrailia, April, 2015. The Colonel tells me that these train sets are now being phased out and replaced in service.
