My model of the Santa Monica freight station has been missing a major part of it for a few years, and I really think that I need to make this… Such a simple thing is a headache, I have been searching for about a year for the correct font, does anyone know the name of it or has it?
If you find out what font it is let me know. I have a disk with 100's of different fonts on it. Let me know and if I have it...I'll type it up and post it here for you
It looks like there are at least two font styles there. That could be corroborated by this image from the Pacific Electric Historical Society: https://www.pacificelectric.org/pac...c-electric-tower-signs-arcadia-and-claremont/ It appears to be a general look for their font with the angled corners. "Reload Medium" is a similar font - you might just have to start with something like that then stretch or squeeze as needed, as well as make tweaks to the individual letters that are unique to the Pacific Electric style. Do the whole alphabet so you'll have letters for signs later. That's how I do font matches anyway
Is there a good, straight on picture of the signs? I modeled the Cascade Tunnel over Stevens Pass in Washington which has very distinctive signs above the portals-I just shrunk my pic, cut it out, and glued it above the portals!
East Long Beach is going to throw you off - as that's a completely different font than what I'm seeing on the others. The "P", "C" and "R" are rounded in the E Long Beach whereas everywhere else they're squared off. Could give you some leeway though - more options to choose from.
Except they used two different lettering styles, and bremner seems to want the other, more interesting one.
I seriously doubt that there was a font for those signs. Those were almost surely hand painted, and most signpainters has a serif and a sans serif "font" that they probably learned as an apprentice, and which varied throughout their career. Just look through what's on your computer and you can find something that will come close. Look for (the name) bold. I;m an enthusiastic rivet counter and that wouldn't bother me in the least.
