Your execution with the water and rocks is excellent! Looks much like the scenery I was crawling around in my last couple drives in the PNW. Super cool mini layout, can't wait to see that Xmas tree all lighted!
Ok, I know it’s been a while since I have posted about my little layout... it’s been even longer since I have worked on it. But I got some work done tonight and I am very pleased with the result. I built the facia for the table. It’s of the same wood as the layout’s facia tho not yet stained (I ran out of time tonight). As planned the layout fits perfectly inside the lip (sorry no pics yet with the layout off the table) and while not perfect, it’s pretty good considering the tools I have to use. I wanted to make the front piece out if one piece of ply but I didn’t have a piece that was wide enough, so it is made out of 3 pieces and the grain lines up pretty ok. I also adjusted the drawer so that it closes better than it used to. All and all I’m very pleased with the results. Please let me know what you all think.
Just jumping in- seeing small amazing layouts like this make me want to go back and work on some tiny layouts that I may actual get a chance to finish someday. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Yes, it’s the re-release. I had the original back in the day, but it got left to rot after I got a JRx-2. I now have all 3 of the Optima family re-release cars. I drive my Javelin frequently. New RC is fun but there is something about the way the old ones drive and handle that makes them even more enjoyable to drive.
Went to my LHS today and got some scenery items. Well some different colors to add some more variety to the build. I got the campground set up and some grass at grandmas house. More to come here soon.
For those wondering, I got the Kyosho Turbo Optima put together today. I want to drive it soooo bad, but I don’t want to mess up the gold finish. I will paint the body here soon.
Whoa! Nice! I used to do buggies in my younger days. Nitro! I had a RC10GT and a Kyosho Inferno MP-5. Those were the days!
Had one just like that myself 'back in the day'. My other hobby used to be racing RC cars. Started at the Ranch in So Cal (actually Thropes at the time) with my almost stock Rough Rider in 1980.
We used to own a RC track in Tulsa. There were three classes, Formula One/Indycar, Sedan and GTP. All of the cars were manufactured by Tamiya. The race setup was three heat races six minutes long and a main, also six minutes. Track was patterned after F1 and Indy tracks in a 120x60 foot area a local Kmart parking lot. Race fee was $5 per car and we usually had 30 to 40 entries. It was a lot of fun. Joe
The layout is 32x40 inches. It’s what I call a railfan layout. What that is, is a layout with no operations, just watching trains run around in circles. Our house is smallish and a Xmas tree is sometimes more than we can handle, so I Made this as a substitute for the tree... only I ended up liking it so much I couldn’t see making it all snowy and only bringing it out at Xmas. So not I can relax and watch the trains fun endlessly in circles and enjoy the click clack of the wheels.
i say make it Christmas every day of the year hahahahahahahaah snow in the summer time snow in the fall and snow in the spring. way i see it is winter in Cristmas and sand dunes in spring and summer white sand dunes hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Just another update, I have not had much time lately but I was able to get the grass in the park done, and a couple details here and there as well. Hope you all like it!
The ballast crew will be out tonight to finish the work, but what work you ask? Well here were 2 things on the layout that really bugged me. The first was only being able to run passenger trains in one direction on the top level, and second not being able to clean the tracks in the bridge on the upper level. So after I got off work I got to work fixing the layout. So 2 large 5 fingered cranes pulled the old bridge out and installed a new concrete overpass that allows for easy cleaning and travel in both directions by long cars.
