Hello everyone! This is an impressive board, glad you are here! I recently started back up rail modeling in N scale after near 50 years. As a young'un I had a 4x8 HO layout in the basement, read all the books, and Pop was an architect so I had a good start. Then I discovered girls.
Now I'm 62, disabled, and in a small senior apartment thus N scale on the kitchen table and learning all over again via the internet. Not long ago I thought of John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid and sure enough there it was on Youtube and everywhere! It didn't take long to get started... First thing I learned was Beware of Bachmann then don't buy anything from China which I normally follow, but prices were so cheap. I have had good luck with Ebay however.

Anyway, I'm off and running and hope to learn much here and meet some good people!

Welcome to TrainBoard Sam! There is a great N scale community here that you will enjoy. Any ideas as to what road(s) and area you are going to model?

Hi Sam, welcome to the TrainBoard, glad to have you on board. I too grew up in NY, also in N. So join our N-Scale Forum, we're happy to share.

Welcome Sam, you're not alone. A lot of us here are in a similar boat. This is the best site on the web.

Welcome aboard! I’m also starting a very small Nn3 layout! N is a great scale for scenery in limited spaces. Don’t be too scared of Bachmann or Chinese stuff anymore as things have generally improved. Not saying there’s no junk out there.

Welcome aboard, Sam. Where in NY are you residing? I'm a displaced upstater from the Mohawk Valley.

    Wow! Thanks for the replies!
As to where and what road I intend to model, my only true goal is to stay with steam. I'd like to work with the West with maybe a mining and/or ranching theme. Or maybe the Northeast coast with harbors and ships and who am I kidding! I'm restrained by budget, disability, and a 4x6 layout on the kitchen table. I'm sure it will change much over time!
I've lived in the same county in NY (Rockland) since 1961. It was a rural area then in the lower Hudson Valley but now we're part of the NYC Metropolitan Area (ick.) Not a hobby shop around and only two craft stores.
    Thanks again, all!
