There is a high and long trestle here. I almost caught this coal empty! The caboose distracted me at the old depot downtown where I stopped first. Then got to the bridge just as the headend power hit it! Dad-gum it! Still a neat catch!
That's an impressive structure. Though my pucker string would have been pulled very tight if I ever had crossed it during daylight.
I have done some wild and crazy things in my life, but not that!! Fun thing is I have been on that locomotive! Way back in 93-4 I went up to Denton, MT with a friend to check them out. But, nope, I am not going to climb that trestle!!
You're not too far from me in Minot. If you drop by, I might be able to do some tour guide and show you around.
It will be on my list of things to do! I hear that there is a stuffed and mounted steamer there in Minot? I have two sons working in Williston, and do plan to see them later this summer, maybe I'll drop in, with fair warning!
So, we stopped at Valley City for another couple hours on our way back from the Big Boy hunt, and waited around hoping for an eastbound. Knew there were no westbounds since we had just followed them tracks for a while. No luck, so I just climbed up to get some interesting shots! And at Spiritwood, just west of Valley City.
Soo Line has a steamer stuffed and mounted at the city zoo. There's also the Soo depot and GN/Amtrak depot in downtown. And the monster trestle west of town.
On my way back home to Glendive, I found my way back to Valley City, and to a different vantage point for these sunset profiles of the bridge.
