Not sure of this is a DCC question or n scale question, so I'll start with n scale. I have an Atlas S-2 - sound equipped right from the factory. Has worked great - until this evening. I was running along and the locomotive stalled. This is not unusual by itself, this happened near a switch and a spot where this has happened before - not unusual. I gave the loco a light shove and it resumed power. The engine start up sequence began over and the loco continued to move (I had previously programmed it to be able to move before the start up sequence completes). Everything fine and then - bam, loco stops stone cold. No sound. No response to any control except I could turn the light off and on. Ugh. I did a factory reset to the decoder, programming a value of 8 into CV 8. In fact I did it a few times. I was finally able to get the locomotive to run again, but I have no sound at all. It responds to throttle control just fine, in fact I messed around with the BEMF a little and it runs even better now than before, except NO SOUND. Any ideas on what to do next?
I tipped the locomotive, removing the wheels from one side for about 5 to ten seconds. I did that several times, and eventually completely powered the system down (MRC Prodigy Wireless). Other than the sound, everything is great - it is actually running better than ever before! But nothing seems to be bringing the sound back.
You either have dirty track, wheels or no continuity between track sections. Also check for track unevenness.
From the Spookshow review's mention of the 28-function capability and sound features described as "Over 20 sound effects are available, including engine start-up and shutdown, prime mover sounds through all eight notches, bell, air horn, air compressor, dynamic brakes and more," you might want to take another look at the paperwork and functions 11-28 to see if there is something about being able to further manipulate the sound that could have it turned off with with a key strike or combination of key strokes other than F8. Just a guess.
I doubt that. He said other than sound everything runs great including throttle control. If the wheels or tracks are dirty, throttle control would have been intermittent.
I assume you have tried toggling F8 (which is the sound on/off function, by default). If that doesn't work, as noted above, you may have a bad connection between decoder and speaker; or, the amplifier chip on the decoder may have gone bad. The first thing I would try is reloading the sound project into the decoder. But, to do this, one needs to have a LokProgrammer. There are folks around the country with these who have volunteered to help others. Where are you located?
I have definitely toggled f8, with no changes. Track is clean, wheels are clean. Runs perfect but no sound. Other locos run fine, including others with sound. I suppose a wire could have broken. Wow I'd hate to think it could be that fragile though, I try to handle these pretty carefully. I guess it's that or something has gone wrong with the decoder. I couldn't get any response (other than the light) when it first went haywire. After doing a factory reset I was able to get it running again, but the sound is gone.
