I've said it before and I'll say it again. The 4th of July is my favorite holiday. I love the colors, summer is my favorite time of year and what other holiday allows men the opportunity to drink cold beverages, cook on an open fire and light fireworks? Sorry Christmas, you just not on my radar! For we Americans here at Trainboard, we celebrate our independence and we usually go all out. I'm sure to the bemusement of our brothers and sisters around the globe. So with that said, it's time to raise Old Glory high from the station's flag pole and put up some red, white and blue bunting on the station. Come on in to some cold ice tea and lemonade. Grab a chair, gather around and tell us what you have planned for this extended and special long weekend. Thursday: Honestly, with the move finally behind me, I hope to get more done on settling back in. My work shop is almost all cleaned up and I'm working on organizing it, the spare room and the garage. Of course, there will be grill time and maybe a bottle rocket or two. Friday: Work continues on two layouts. The original City Job and my mini B&M layout. Years ago, my ex-wife made an embroidered skirt for a future B&M layout, complete with the McGinnis logos. The mini layout is only 6-feet long and so is the skirt. I plan to build a simple wall mount L bracket to attach to the wall and attach the skirt beneath it creating a nice uniform look while the layout simply rests on the bracket system. The mini layout will still be portable so I can take it to shows. Saturday: About a year ago, I painstakingly designed and built three lightweight Baltic Birch plywood modules with self enclosed folding legs. These were 48 inches long and 18 inches wide because I was in the middle of re-designing the City Job to the old standards. With freedom to do my own thing, these modules have been set aside. For the last year, I've accumulated a fair amount of HO and FreeMo is popular in my area. I'll end up using these three modules for HO FreeMo, but I will need to build two "mini transition modules" so I can connect to the outside world. At home, my HO modules will be a stand alone B&M switching layout. I'm hoping to work on the transition modules as well as clean and organize the garage. Sunday: Despite the holiday, domestic duties are still in the schedule. I might clean up any loose ends on the layouts and maybe get a ride on the Harley in there too. We'll see. So how about you? Do you have a long weekend? Even if it is just a regular weekend, let us know what your up to. We'll return on Monday the 8th to see how we all did. BONUS ROUND: Post a image of your Bicentennial Locomotive(s). Better yet, post an image of it on your layout if you have one. Until then, have a happy and safe 4th of July and... High Greens! And HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
I plan on starting to apply ballast on modules 05, 06, 07 and 08. Also will solder feeder wires to the same modules. Joe
It is way to hot !! Time to go to the beach....... Railfanning included..... Do you see the black cat?
Hoping to finish up a couple of small kits, install some "turnouts", and get some work done on the creek bed on the layout. Do have to go to the office Friday. Happy 4th everyone!!!!
Not sure what I will get done. I got a lot done Monday and Tuesday this week. A little scenery and weathering. The car show is almost finished. I hope to get some more done but with the NMRA convention starting Sunday very little will get done this next week.
Today: Complete my caboose project. Friday: Work Saturday and Sunday -- Don't know - yet. Hope Y'all have a wonderful and very safe U.S. independence day!! Wolf
Took a while to uncover them but here are my submissions for the BONUS ROUND: Happy 4th everyone!!!!!!!
Joining the party late here. Some of this for the "long weekend" is 20/20 stuff I've gotten done the last 2 days. BUT, I planned on anyway. 1. Built the brick walls to an Alkeme C&O signal cabin. The classic C&O brick one. Airbrushed the brick and airbrushed all the wood pieces and trim. 2. Ballast the Y leads in and out of my staging track. 3. Replace the dreaded cracked axle gears so typical in the original Life Like Proto 2000 (Pre-Walthers). I ordered a bunch of gears from A-Line and they came in the mail today. 4. Put together several cars that I've already air brushed parts. Plus work on some decaling projects. Happy 4th weekend all.
