Well, if the government paid people to collect taxes, they would have to increase taxes to pay those tax collectors. Somehow, I think that would be a losing proposition, considering how how large the percentage of tax revenues that are diverted to programs that are basically just buying votes.

But they are "vintage." Which in another language must mean expensive.

It's the toy train market that causes this. Everyone think that if they have a Lionel train, they have practically the ONLY ONE. Old makes it more valuable. But in N scale, old (vintage, antique, whatever) just means old and poor technology. That SP F unit is not even a real paint scheme (or at least on that there are ANY photographs of). I guess that Cotton Belt had something similar, but not SP. Swinging pilot and couplers front and rear...not collectable or usable.

Not sure why the big sell off if the wife has past (passed presumably), that is a time to ramp up unrestricted! So what if the track does under the dining room table, there is a lot of empty space there since there is only 1 chair in use!

So as someone who is single I'm not crazy for having a layout in the living room then. That's good to know. Seemed the logical place for it since it is the largest room in the apartment.

I used to find these everywhere for $10 to $15 on close out. LifeLike must have mass produced these by the 1000's in various road names including SP Daylight. It is possible that this particular one was a Special Run by BevBel... they custom painted for a few manufacturers.

It appears from a buyer viewpoint (and only that) that eBay's process of collecting sales tax is relatively straightforward. If you are using Paypal, there are now two transactions for a purchase: one for the actual purchase price plus shipping, and a second for the sales tax on the first amount (price plus shipping). It is causing more work for me to keep track of things (i.e. your favorite computer-based accounting system if you don't download transactions automatically).

I just checked a direct credit card purchase on eBay and the same type of transactions are shown: 1) purchase plus shipping 2) sales tax on (1).

I speculate that eBay is separating these two charges for a couple of reasons: first, to make a single collected remittance periodically to the state that is owed the tax (I suspect this will be every state that charges sales tax by year's end) and second, to keep the eBay final value fees from including the tax. I don't know why they haven't figured out that they could stick sellers even more-- oops, I mean enhance the seller experience-- by charging the final value fee on sale price plus shipping plus tax, but this way that is less likely to happen. I do think it's only a matter of time before eBay passes along the cost of all this Incremental Information Technology onto sellers.

Other online venues are also collecting sales tax that previously did not. A certain large online seller named for a major South American river was a mish-mosh of tax/no tax depending on whether they were actually selling, "fulfilling" or otherwise; now it doesn't make any difference-- you pay sales tax. Whether smaller sellers will need to get with the program, and when, remains to be seen.

Not like I'm suggesting skirting sales tax statutes, but identifying those places that don't yet collect sales tax, and purchasing from them now, could be a cost avoidance. Hypothetically, of course. That's actually what I meant by "alternatives, are becoming more preferable."

Joe, without checking I think this "RARE! VINTAGE! HARD TO FIND! YOU'RE LUCKY I LISTED IT AT ONLY $75.50!!!" F7 is actually a stock Life-Like item. Bev-Bel liked to have their own insert labels with what they sold.

The LL number, 6405, is actually one that was on a freight F-7. It showed up in either Black Widow or Hallowe'en and eventually went to Bloody Nose. LL did sell these in SP Black Widow, but, they may have been Bev-Bel. I forget the numbers on the Black Widows. I had a pair of them that I sold on FeePay some time back. I did not get too much for them.

Athearn sold a Daylight FP-7 in its HO Blue Box line. LL sold one in an HO train set in the 1980s. I forget the numbers on those.

If SP ever had any of its FP-7s painted Daylight, never have I seen a photograph of it.

SSW's lone FP-7 did show up in Daylight colors. SSW numbered it 330. When SSW ended passenger service in 1960, SP moved it to California to work the SF Peninsula commutes. By that time, it was in Bloody Nose and it stayed that way until the end. SP assigned it number 6462. By the time that I was riding behind it, if I had to take the early train to school, #110, it was on its last leg. It was the only SP FP-7 that AMTRAK did not want. Apparently, it had features different from the rest of SP's FP-7s.
