Yeah, Santa Fe had about 10 GP-40Xs. I love the flared radiators. Still in the same number series after the rebuild and repaint.

Thanks for the info! I like this "simplified" BNSF paint scheme, really classy.
BNSF's bigger units have too much striping and such going on, plus the silver chassis looks good new but after a few miles looks really dingy.o_O

Had a friend from overseas in town for a few weeks, and took a day trip up the Georgetown area. Insisted that we make a quick stop at the Georgetown Loop. Didn't take a ride, but I did grab some photos. Didn't stick around long enough to catch the train as it was making its way around the Loop itself sadly as this was one of the last things we did and everyone was getting quite tired.

Some of the mostly GE diesel fleet on the line.

Nice stuff there, I like the #140 in the Grande colors

It has a GB&L under the cab, do you know what that stands for?

I assume the latter, since the rest of the equipment were centered on the Georgetown theme.

Georgetown, Breckenridge & Leadville would be correct!

I had read or heard this name somewhere. What is the significance of it? Just a whimsical name for the loop operation? Or?

It was the name of the company that the Colorado Central incorporated to construct the loop line back in 1880. The name got revived when the line was reconstructed in the 1970s.

I assume a ballast car because of the side delivery chutes. Sand cars usually were bottom delivery.

Ballast car. A company sand car would be enclosed, to keep the sand dry. Should be able to spot hatches on a roof

Ya got me. I didn't even think of that!

Oh well, at first light, ya gotta go shooting.

    "Golden Hour Glint"
At first light, the Ross Local, with a sharp pair of SD60Ms leading, brings a block of empties west for loading just east of the Broadway Bridge in Minot.

I just can't help it. Distracted driving again. 70 MPH down Highway 36 just south of Sealy, Texas.

Taken yesterday, the southbound Silver Star running in daylight ten hours late at Columbia, SC. She'd hit a fallen tree somewhere north, doing damage to the lead unit. CSX lent a helping hand. That's NS's line to Spartanburg to the right.

Look at all of those spikes riding high. Wow. Must not be a line which is top priority?

Interesting -- I'd not noticed that. I'm not completely certain, but I'm thinking the line probably sees four trains each day, a manifest in each direction, plus a mix of runs for BMW and stone. I saw a piece of maintenance equipment nearby, so perhaps plans are afoot.
