Toledo Oregon, At the end of one of the rickety branch lines that SP built over Oregon's coast range. Toledo is just up river from Newport. A rather large Lumber facility is here and the Portland and Western regularly calls with the Toledo Hauler A train that often rates SP levels of locomotives (including slugs) to crest the slippery pass back to Corvallis and the Willamette Valley.

Here one of the many many GP39-2s, still in ATSF Cubscout in 2010, idles waiting to get cars from the mill.

Neat little lokey. It's so compact and low to the ground. What gauge is it?

Taken in early May, NS geeps cross the former ACL at the north end of Andrews Yard in Columbia, SC. This low-tech method of protecting the crossing prevails, despite CSX having to stop all trains before proceeding and tying up busy downtown highway crossings in the process.

On Memorial Day, we went train watching in Stockton, Ca, what I think might be the old WP yards near the airport. Took me a few, but these locos are actually just giant RC models!

Yep! I joked with him about it and he said, "It helps that I love my job."

How is the NS protected? Similar signage? Some sort of interlocked signals?

I'm not completely certain, but I think NS has unfettered clearance unless rights are given to CSX. The crossing cuts across the north end of the NS yard and is often occupied with NS moves. NS controls the crossing and works by radio with CSX as CSX trains appear.

This is a lonely spot, well away from public roads. I had a nice photo of an approaching CSX coal train all set up, but vacated my lineside post when an NS maintenance truck appeared. I try to respect railroad property and didn't want to invite trouble.

    Sorry I'm late!

Yeah, happens to me a lot in the semi. The phone is easier to grab than the camera. Just have to be careful!
