A wild query but I am wondering if anyone has ever transplanted any other trucks onto a ConCor/Kato U50? Ben S.
I do not own a Con-Cor U50, but from the photo's I've seen those trucks look specific to that model. You did not mention why you wanted to replace the trucks? If it's an issue with the wheels, maybe this article maybe of help? https://jamestrainparts.com/2016/02/15/replacing-con-cor-u50-turbine-jtp-c-855-wheelsets/
The closest I've ever done to this Ben was using a U-50 chassis to repower a Con-Cor RDC many years ago. I removed the 'type B' sideframes and attached the RDC ones to the trucks. Of course I also removed the inboard trucks. Cheers Steve
I noticed that if you were able to use the Kato/ConCor PA trucks with it (which aren't hard to regauge with larger wheels) I'd get an exactly correct mech for a TT scale M630/M636. (These have short wheelbase Dofasco trucks.) I think the PA crown gear is higher, but wondered if I could adjust the steel retainer plates on the U50 or the nubs on the side of the gear tower, whether the trucks could be positioned so the crown gear would work with the U50 worm gears satisfactorily. I think I'll just have to try it and see.
Sorry I can't help you Ben, I figured a re-gauge was in the mix somewhere for you. Good luck with the M-liner. Steve
