Nothing on oil industries here but, managed to get a couple of cars completed this week.

First up is an Intermountain Railway FMC 5283CF Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Aluminum, Black and Tuscan Red Paints, then lettered with Herald King Decals. Car was used for transporting lumber out of the Pacific Northwest and could be seen all over the country wherever lumber was used.

This is an Exactrail PS 4427CF Low Hip Version Covered Hopper Kit, painted with Scalecoat II UP Hopper Car Gray Paint and lettered with Oddball Decals. The Rock Island in the 60's bought thousands of covered hoppers to replace the 40' boxcars formally used in grain service.

    Thanks for looking!

That brings up a few memories. Back in the 1980s I painted up an old Athern Blue Box car in the SP HYDRA-CUSHION scheme for my dad's HO layout. Was kind of generic. I used Micro-Scale decals. I think it was the first HO freight car I ever decorated. Thanks for the flash-back.

A lot of very nice bulk plants shown above, very typical looking, nice work.

I'll stay with the oil industry, but I am listing images of the wellhead that ends up supplying your bulk plants.

1st is a view of a pumpjack and tank battery for collecting the days pumping......

2nd is the same but different location in the oil patch..........

Finally the tank that the 2 batteries pump into. This would be a 44K barrel tank that is pumped and injected into the main line passing bye each and every day. This field collects a high quality grade sweet crude of 42 API gravity, and can only be injected as a batch of sweet crude passes the station. Typically the pump might run for 8-10 hours.........................

Note the pig trap lower right of image. They run a pig evry month and when doing a hydrostatic test of mainline, they might run a "smart" pig. Also, note across the tracks the maintenance crew is completing a leak repair on the main line.

    Brings back memories, have fun,
    Carl

Here is my contribution to the oil dealer theme. I have shown this industry on this thread before so this time I am back dating it to that era of big domed tank cars, 1st generation diesels, and wood cabooses. Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone.

My Bulk petroleum facility "MOHR OIL" is getting switched by the Hindsight Industrial RR's hand me down CF7's. I have a lot of detail work to do on this facility, small trees and shrubs, signage and more, never seem to get done with anything.

    An overall view,

I am an SP guy from the word go. However, I like big steam, so here is my UP collection. For sure the KATO 844, Key Challenger 3985, and Athearn 4014 Big Boy.

The 844 has an ESU Loksound, 3985 has a Zimo 621, and 4014 has a Zimo 621. I am having difficulty speed matching 844 and 4014 using JMRI. If only ESU would get their stuff together.
Yes, I do have SP too !

    TOM - excellent scenes !

The pig trap is a neat addition and certainly adds to the realism of the scene. Kind of cool how the theme this week took off.

I did not realize your work is in Z scale. Absolutely fantastic and yes I always enjoy SP anything, I am from an SP family. My dad was a 42 year veteran of the SP wars and was a "hoghead" on the T&NO/T&L, and my brother had 30 years as a clerk.

    Super work,
    Carl
