First, I love CCD, he makes everything you could ever want. But I am having issues with decal setting solutions not setting them into the paint. His decals to me a super thick, is their something I have not tried that will make them snuggle down? I prefer Micro Scale for off the shelf decals, but my go to for custom is CCD. Things I have tried, Solvaset, Mark Fit Strong, Decal Magic, Micro-Set,Sol, Model Master, Solvent Solution and setting solution. And Testors Plastic Cement and gluing them down. Is there anything else I can look at trying out?
I found the sheets pretty thick too, 4 rounds of MicroSol and they started settling into the bigger cracks. I don’t think I could get them into the finer crevasses.
Same issue but I do love the decals they produce. I tried MicroSol and SolvaSet and it took many applications to get a decent set but since the decals are thick, I never got them exactly how I would have liked them.
Possibly one could contact Circus City about their decals see what they suggest about your issue to make them better. Tom
I'm guessing that you are using a really really thin coat? Any issues with the colors running when using the glue?
Haven't contacted them but if I remember correctly, the instructions actually recommend applying a coat of something like Microscale liquid decal film on them to ensure no color run. I did this on some and it did prevent color run but adds another layer of thickness. I also did some without doing that and didn't notice any color run. As always, that was just my experience and the company's recommendations for application are usually the best to follow.
had the same issues. then i started using microsol before applying the decal. just add a few drops onto the shell. this helps dissolve the decal from both sides. no issues with colors running.
Another option that may require some testing first. Back in my laboratory days I played around with various concentrations of acetic acid, which is basically what one of the commercial products is. I can't remember the concentration I ended up using, but I think it was either 5 or 10%. It worked well, but as I said, do some testing first. As for Matt's decals, pretty nice and he's great to work with. Cheers Steve
Whoa! Tell me more! I've never seen or heard of entire side decals. Who makes them? Cost? And just as important, conformity to the nooks and crannies? This would be a game changer as when you are sick and tire of them or need to sell the car, just soak it in water and get rid of the decal! Unless, of course, it requires a "sealant" like Dullcote, etc.
Those are made by Circus City Decals. I learned about them here a while back and had to try them. They have a lot of interesting stuff.
