The park train runs every summer, but not in the winter. Something about snow drifts and piles blocking the ROW... Besides, who wants to ride in open air cars when it's 25 below outside? (other than nuts like me....)
Pink Lady. Seems as though only certain number series suffered this malady. I wonder what it was about this particular paint which allowed such a fading failure?
CSX too had some sort of ghastly pink color emerge on the noses of some units. This is an SD-70MAC. You can see the contrast with the unit to the right. [Cayce, SC 11/20/2016]
This must be the primer coming through. The so-called "red oxide". Perhaps the primer should have been sealed. Or, it means the color coat was done wrong, or has (a crappy, el cheapo mix) simply failed.
The first time I noticed the odd coloration was on a photo I'd taken. I thought it was bad lighting, but it became apparent that it was just a plain ugly hue.
Some old paint that seems to have held up a little better with some fading. The cub scout looks the better of the two. Ten years ago anyway.
Reminds me of a line from Steve Goodman's 1971 song City of New Orleans: All along the southbound odyssey the train pulls out of Kankakee
This image was floating around on the internet a long while back. Don't know who took it. BNSF Distributed Power unit on its side. West of Edgemont, South Dakota, Black Hills Sub.
