Sometimes you win, sometimes the train does. Cause this hot intermodal heading east bound just as I passed Sunset in Rocklin Ca. First train I'd seen heading to Donner since the Plows went up.
I made a U turn, but the lights conspired against me. I made it to the tunnel under Sierra College, but half the train was already through. But still, wanted to document the chase.[IMG]

I feel your frustration YoHo.

Taken 02/07/19, NS 192 makes an intermediate stop at Andrews Yard in Columbia, SC before proceeding north to terminate at the big hump yard in Linwood, NC.

An oldie from the box-O-slides. I don't see those old GE C40-8s much any more (second unit). A cloudy day in Sugar Land back in May 2008.

I had some time this morning so I grabbed a coffee, hash browns and a pork chop biscuit from Wards and headed on down to the Hattiesburg station.

I pulled in to the gravel lot next to the station and saw passengers standing on the platform and the signals lit. A few minutes later I heard the horn sounding from the northbound Crescent.

A fellow with a couple of young kids pulled up just as it was arriving and wound up chatting with the engineer about where to get crawfish. The engineer was heading north to crew-change in Meridian.

While he was getting ready to leave, NS 9806 was switching in the yard behind the station.

Finally we got a couple extra blasts on the horn and a wave and off they went. For anyone interested I counted five coach cars, cafe, diner, sleeper and baggage.

Only one sleeper? Usually both 19 and 20 have two. I wonder what happened to change that? Hope it's not permanent because sleeper space is hard enough to get on the Crescent with two.

It's been that way a long time it might appear. When my wife and I were married, I tried to book sleeping space from Birmingham to Washington, DC and return and with plenty of time. Amtrak had none. Delta was ready when we were.

    Wow, that's amazing!

So modern, yet the building in the lower left foreground looks 500 years old!

Might have been two. Entirely possible. I had it in my head to remember how many coaches, but the sleepers I wasn't really trying to count.

Probably was two. Crescent has had two since I started riding in 1988. Except one winter when they had a hard freeze up in Sunnyside Yard which froze a bunch of Viewliner tanks and pipes. So only one was available for the Crescent, also many other consists until the cars were thawed out.
