Do any of you utilize modules in your railroading? Do you use N-trak, oNe track, Bendtrak, or some other standardized module? Are you DCC compatible?

I am planning a layout that incorporates modules (probably N-trak, but it's not too late to change) and I would like to hear some of your thoughts.

I use modules designed to fit in a 9.5' x 9.5' bedroom...typical apartment bedrooms where I live. Mine are from the "or whatever" catagory that I call Sub-N. It is a knockoff of N-Track, but only 18" deep (so I can easily clean back drop tracks), and I dumped the 3 track mains.

Visit my layout to find out more-

Go to a train show, and you'll see moduler layouts of all kinds! I model in N-Track standards, but am also looking into TwiN-Trak and oNe-Trak. You can build interchanges for all three and build really BIG BEASTS! [IMG] oNe-Trak and TwiN-Trak is set up for DCC, but I'm not sold on it yet so anything I build will be run on a block system for now. When I build my next Home layout, it will be moduler because we live in such a moble life-style now-a-days. It will be based on N-Trak and "Cat Mountain" style Dominos.

The Model Railroad club that I am a member of is also interested in modules for setting up at shows and swap meets. Pray49, I went to your website and your modules look great! What is the radius of the track on your end modules? They look pretty good for being on such a small module.

Hi Mark, My min. radius is about 11" but was suppose to be 12", on the far left module. I reworked it a couple times, but I am not totally happy yet. I may re-do it again. The right module runs just fine and it is 12" radius. Until I get a northern on it, I'll just leave it be.

One thing I wanted to add... I built an inside corner which worked great but I don't use at this time...For a club you would use inside and outside corners, and not need turnaround modules, saving them for home use. I have plans for N-Trak adaptors so I can use my straight modules with N-Trak clubs. I'll build them when I join another club.

I want to build enough modules so I can have an around the room layout, and eventualy will back to back my turnarounds and convert them to a two piece island module thus increasing my radius.

I have started building a website for our local club, and I have learned how to put pictures on the homepage. [IMG] The address in located in my profile, but I will try to add here also. I'll be adding additional pictures of my N-scale stuff as I have time.

I don't know if you've been to the website of the Northern Virginia NTRAk. They invented oNeTRAK. http://www.nvntrak.com They have some interesting modules. I think that I'm going to have both NTRAK and oNeTRAK modules on my home layout but I'm just in the planning phase now. I have an NTRAK corner and 2 oNeTRAK modules as well.

I have looked at the site that you posted. It is a great site! I am probably going to use a combination of module styles in the layout that my club is building. If you are interested in seeing some pictures as we progress...go to my profile and click on my website. It is a website that I am constructing for the club. I'm no tech wizard. There won't be anything dazzling, but I am learning to post pictures. Hopefully, some of the pictures will give some ideas or inspiration to others.

I am finding that it isn't necessary to abandon N-trak because of the three-track mainlines. The Columbia Gorge N-scalers have successfully hidden the additional tracks inside the mountains of the gorge when they don't want all three tracks.

I dabble mostly in Bendtrack and 2'x4' modules but oNetrak has caught my attention. A double track main to keep the visitors happy(moving trains) and branchline action to keep us switchheads happy. What more could a guy ask for?

The beauty of modules is how you can clamp up with others to run really long lines, allowing trains of prototypical length.

I'm not in a position to set up a layout at home, but when that day comes, I plan to let my N-Trak module "nest" into the layout.

This is supposed to be fun! Pick a standard, follow it; enjoy!
