Thanks to Charlie, my account is back in order. This was the early 1990s. After I got my license and could go out on my own. Probably captured on an old Kodak that took 220 film. C&NW rails, before the merger. This GE was exotic to this 16 year old.
Taken Thursday, CSX F765 rolls downgrade through the piney sandhills near Lugoff, SC on the former SAL main.
Curtis, this is fascinating. What is KRT's function? The little I find implies they transfer products (coal?) from Class-1's to river traffic, assumed to be barges on the Ohio. BTW, their paint scheme is imaginative, I like it.
CSX and NS bring loaded coal hoppers to unload the coal onto river barges. They have yards for NS and CSX cars Here are the engines in 2012. Curtis
Thursday was a day to work on the coast. As I was leaving our Long Beach campus I crossed the CSX tracks and checked out the westbound signal and saw it was lit green. I looked over towards downtown Gulfport and saw headlamps. I drove east a ways on Railroad Avenue and pulled over by the lumber yard spur to catch a westbound loaded with DODX flats and support vehicles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Talk about coincidences. Thursday morning I was stopped in Saucier by the northbound KCS Hattiesburg Turn which had at least two dozen empty DODX flats, mostly six-axle. I assume they were being taken to Camp Shelby for loading with tanks and howitzers. Maybe there's going to be a large exercise somewhere west of here sometime in the next few weeks, what with your westbound loads and my northbound empties. I've got to remember my phone has a camera, just never think about it...
Yup. Further back was what looked like the phased planar array though it was folded up. Didn’t bother taking pictures of it though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I was told a lot of armor at Shelby is due for service life extension rehab. So that could also be what they were heading for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Possibility. Load up at Shelby, interchange with NS at Hattiesburg, and transit to the armor depot at Anniston, AL. Or, since the empties came to Shelby from CSX, return the loads to CSX at Gulfport. Then CSX take them to BHM, from there NS to Anniston.
