Thanks for all your kind comments!

I put together a video showing how the crane works on the prototype and final assembly of final crane model.

As someone who's looking to put some animation on his layout, I am very impressed. I might do a construction crane on a building instead of a rail one, but you've given me a whole host of ideas.

This is crazy! So is the entire thing scratch built? Doesn't matter still amazing, was just wondering!

Glad you like it! The crane was something I designed and 3d printed. The animation part was done with some old servo motors. Someday the crane itself will be kit for sale. Just need to find time to make instructions on how to assemble and post it on my Shapeways store.

Yes well done this crane. Making it work like the real thing is really awesome. A real eye catcher on a layout.

$3.95 E-bay experiment - PWM DC Motor Speed Controller Regulator. Much happier with speed and control. Should have bought 2 so I can speed control the hoist..... They have a push button directional version of this. I'll try that next on both the hoist and slew control.

That's got to be the world's biggest dime, because the model certainly does not look as small as Z Scale.

This is really cool! now to have a flat car to handle the boom! Then be able to move boom up and down. then make a electro magnets that can be turn off and on to pick up scrape metal to load on gondola Cars with a switch, Never ending projects!

Thanks for all your kind words everybody. Lot more to be done on this project. Finding a lot of neat stuff on Ebay on the electronics side that's dirt cheap. Only problem is that it takes forever to get here in the mail as it all comes from China.

Some of the components I can get in the states. But I'd be spending a small fortune on experiments that might not even work. And its all made in China so it seams silly to pay 400% to 1000%+ for literary the same exact product. Drawback, have to wait 2 to 4 weeks.

Next up will be slowing the hoist speed down. Like a dummy, I didn't buy 2 PWM DC Motor Speed Controller Regulators as I was not sure how well it would work. I found a better controller that should do the same but with different controls. This time I ordered 2.

Funny you mention magnets Walt. Got a few ideas on that but need to test some ideas out first. Again, waiting for stuff from China....

I've already have "version 2.0" of this rig worked out in my head. There is a lot that can be done here. But More experiments and more free time needed. That latter part is the hard one to come by right now.
