Hey everyone, I'm coolengineer (or also Alex). I'm newbie to the hobby and I will be dealing with mostly HO and maybe some O Scale in the future. Right now I'm just looking for clubs to hang out at in the greater San Francisco area. Late steam era will be what I will be focusing on. Steam trains have always been my passion (really I'm fascinated by anything that is steam driven). I work as a maritime engineer (both steam and diesel) so I want something that eat up a lot of time when I'm home. So that is me, kinda sorta. So anyways, I will be looking forward to learning from you guys.
Hi Alex, welcome. Happy to have you on board. By maritime steam, I assume you mean turbines, not recips. Though I imagine there may be a few recips still operating within museums, or I'd like to think so. Are there any live steam rail clubs in the Bay area? Years ago, I remember reading about some O Gauge live steam models.
Ya, I do mean steam turbine, but I am qualified to work on recipes as well. Ya, the only one that I know that is in commercial operation is the SS Badger which is based out of Ludington, MI. It is a car ferry that used to work for the B & O Railroad. Other than that, all the other recipes that I know of are museums. Ya, there are a few live steam groups in the bay area. Can't name any of the top of my head, but I do know that are a few.
