An over enthusiastic fan of our product decided to help themselves to our samples of the AMT N scale multilevel passenger cars this past weekend at the Amherst show. If you know their whereabouts, we are requesting that they be returned to us, no questions asked. These were the only samples we had from the factory, and as there are no others in the US, if you see them you know where they came from.
OMG, this is unbelievable that someone would steal products from a train show. Sorry Paul, this is way beyond "An over enthusiastic fan of our product" I know you're trying to put a nice spin on it, but who every stole this product has just done the entire modeling community a complete injustice. This is very upsetting, I hope the person realizes the error of their ways and returns the product.
Caught two lowlife's stealing from the same vendor at the Dupage show a few years back. One stole a book, the other an Undec Kato Baggage car. The one with the book wasn't even from this country !!! They got arrested, and I wound up with an Atlas Undec GP9TT !!!
Some POS stole 12 Kato Locos from A friend's Table at the Portland GTE this past weekend. Several were custom painted locos.
I would like to read where some POS was caught doing that and the vendor beat the holy crap out of them right then and there. JMO
I was lucky to only lose 2 box cars at a show once. I do not sell any of my surplus at shows anymore.
I've come to the conclusion that there is an opportunistic thief in the immediate area practically wherever you go at all times.
Sad but true- but at least there wasn't when some idiot courier 'delivered' my new locos by leaving them on the window sill outside our apartment stairs!! Living opposite the Police Station has some advantages. Paul Graf- sorry about the theft-your products rock.
Unfortunately we are seeing more and more people with Sticky Fingers. You have some people that are just "opportunistic thieves" they will grab an item when somebody else isn't paying attention. But we are seeing the "Professionals" coming to Show/Train Sales/Swap Meets also. These are the people we plan to swipe items and may even have a certain "wanted list" of items. Lots of times they work in teams, one draws the attention of the Seller, and the other takes the wanted item(s). We have to be more aware of Security at our selling venues NOW. Sorry to have to say this, but there Dis-honest people EVERYWHERE nowadays, even in the Model Railroad Hobby. One more thing: As the old saying goes: If it sounds like a deal, too good to be true, it probably isn't! Watch who you are buying from. Steal something on one side of a show and sell it on the other.
Sorry to hear about this, Paul. Any update on whether the missing items have been returned? One approach to "guarding the valuables" is teaming up with a bunch of other sellers who watch each other's tables. We have a group that does the RIT Show here in Rochester. As far as I know, nothing's been taken... knock on wood for December 2019.
In some cultures, stealing is an accepted part of life and I agree with what mtntrainman wrote. It's the only thing some people understand. Doug
WE had our home for sale and the relator held it open, it was a large home and my layout was in the basement and I had about 100 cars on the layout. I always keep the original boxes to put all my cars and locos back in and when packing things up to move I ended up with an empty box that had no car for it. Someone who came through during the open house showing stole an atlas tank car. There are low life every place.
There are people who have the idea that if things are left out in the open and not nailed or screwed down...the things are unwanted or undervalued, and therefor in need of a good home! Which they are more than happy to find for the item(s)! Not everyone is dishonest, but some really believe that it is their right to "purloin" anything they come across. And a lock will will deter an honest person, but attract a dishonest one....even challenge him, or her! Live long and prosper! Jim
