Well i did it!!! [IMG] finished gluing down the track on the mainline of my very first layout. wired the feeders to the main buss and took out and old bachmann dc power pack and fired up my new kato p42 with 4 super liners. The choo-choo did not fall off the track!!! [IMG] [IMG] (the wife was convinced that my little choo-choo would fall down and go boom) I showed her!! :D [IMG]

enough back patting and to the questions.

first thank you all for all the advice on getting started,
Do i have to "break in" the p42 and if so how?

Should i run it in both directions, both foward and reverse with the cars attached to find any glitches in the track? and finally ( i will try to explian this as best as possible) when running in the oppsite direction on a turn out and the turn out is thrown, the p42 will derail, if thrown for that direction all is ok and all is ok for both throws of the turnout in the opposite direction. it that normal and would that happen in the real world?

I always just run it at a normal speed, forward and backwards all by itself [IMG]

File the tips of the turn-out, rounded over / thinner and check your gauge of your wheels

I always break in a new engine by running at normal speed forward for about 15 minutes, then backward about 15 minutes and keep changing direction about every 15 minutes for about an hour. If anything is going to happen it usually does during that time. (Murphys Law). Oh and no cars. Then I will load it up with cars and I am in business.
