Atlas announced GP35s in demo paint. Does this mean that they may follow up with DD35s in Demo, UP, and SP, and DD35As in UP? Perhaps follow up with a DDA40X? N scale has been screaming for years for a DDA40X that doesn’t have an oil pipeline for handrails, and a closed pilot...
I don't believe Atlas has a history of producing models of a prototype that can't have a good selection of road names applied to them. And Bachman has cranked out who knows how many of those already. So with that in mind, and the cost of tooling an entire new locomotive shell and mechanism on prototypes that were not owned by a good number of railroads(between the 3 locos you mention only 92 units produced if the net is correct) I would doubt that they would. But you never know.
Just out of curiosity, I would like to inquire what radii would you run these DD35's. Did the Bachmann models run on 9 3/4 inch radii?
Hi Paul, Was hoping for another run of the GP35 in Western Maryland Circus colors. Was also hoping for another run of the N&W 1300 and 1301. We haven't seen those paint schemes since 2006. The N&W 1300 & 1301 are special as they were the only two low short hood GP35's the N&W ever owned that were equipped with dynamic braking. Those two came from the P&WV, all other low short hood GP35's came from the Wabash. http://archive.atlasrr.com/Images/NLocomotives/ngp3035/112706/46536TQ.jpg http://archive.atlasrr.com/Images/NLocomotives/ngp3035/112706/46540TQ.jpg
If you check his signature line he works for Atlas and therefore well qualified to know what Atlas is up to.
Time to find a cheapo Bachmann DDA40X, get some GP35 long hoods, and do a kitbash. Should be fairly simple?
If you're really after a DD35 in N scale a Shapeways shell & complete instructions are available from James: https://jamestrainparts.com/?s=dd35&submit=Search
