In August of 2017, I posted a picture one one of these threads of a Ye Old Huff N’ Puff wooden bay window Caboose I was working on. I later discovered that the Caboose, that is supposed to HO Scale was in fact way out of Scale next to a generic Athearn Caboose.

The Caboose may be closer to S or even On30. After 16 months, I finally painted the Caboose this afternoon in Candy Apple Red. I will likely letter this for the Leading Creek Coal & Lumber company as an On30 model and put it on display. Perhaps someday I will model narrow gauge, but for now it go back into the boxes.[IMG]

    Thank GJ.

Funny thing is the car is actually a little darker and grime covered.

The sun looks to have bleached the the dark out.

Still looks cool hooked on my workbench to a trio of F's .

    Lots more to come.

    Hello Trainboard Experts!

Got a question for you. I have a Rapido SW-1200 on the way with CP livery. The plan is to strip it and repaint it as POCR #022. What is a good way to strip the existing paint off the body? Unfortunately the unit is red now which would be a good match for the main color of 022, but the CP name and road number is on it. I’m open to suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Dale

Usually a safe bet is to start with is 91% isopropyl alcohol.

I use it on newer athearn unit's cars,

Older athearn paint i use Super Clean in the purple jug in the automotive sections of Waldo world and others

    Hi Dale.
I have tried Vince's suggestions and have had success with them. A couple times neither worked. They are sure cheap enough to try first.
I seem to use Scalecoat paint remover almost always. It is expensive I keep a spaghetti container about full just put whatever I want in there for a couple days.
I have used it over and over for years so it lasts a long time, works first time every time.
I hope the new year is treating you good
My friend, RR is keeping me way too busy.

    Hi Tom,

I understand busy. It’s tradeshow time again and we are shipping materials this year. This week is d-day on Thursday. I have to have everything in crates and on pallets so they can show up on time (and in one piece!). No pressure there! LOL

I want to mention again that I enjoyed your post the other day regarding the SD 70ACe locomotives. Those are massive brutes. I even have mine on a short YouTube video. They are running on a KCS unit coal train. I love those things. Kinda clashes with my choice of a home layout.

I purchased the Rapido SW to go with my BLI SW 1500 on the POCR. It will be numbered 022. Some one numbered the real 022 with upside down 5’s for the 2’s. It looks a bit different for sure. I will try the alcohol bath first. Hopefully I’ll get lucky. If I got really lucky, the road numbers and name would come off and not the red base!

I have been asked to run some operations sessions for a meet coming up. As soon as it’s posted, I’ll talk about it. Son Sean and I are getting excited about it. The layout is now 2 years old, we have a ways to go but we are making progress. Soon to be added is the Terra Nitrogen complex (small depiction) but will add more switching ops for us.

Anyway, I wanted to thank you and Vince for the suggestions. I hope you guys are doing well and having fun on the RRs!

    Dale

I got this Stewart U25B a while ago and decided it needed to go to work. I didnt care for the lettering and I always renumber factory painted locos as it seems everyone has that number on their RR LOL. I used old pencil type ereaser to remove the lettering and number then used Micro Scale decals to renumber and re letter the unit. Added a few details, like an air dryer, bell, beacon, sunshades.
It has been updated to use the hex drive components runs like a Swiss watch. Handrails are a bit chunky but so am I. I like these older locos.

Gotta weather it up now and put it to work.

Just installed a Kadee 158 on the front of a United brass 2-8-0. Soo much easier than in N scale!

    It liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiives lol.

Up next is my spare time while the weathering dries project .

Have several phases this one unit will go thru arriving at it's final configuration for my 1979 era.

And the weathering on my CP car is mild compared to the end result of this unit .

    Enjoy

    A thick layer of dust.

This is how my workbench has looked for almost 2 years. Injury pushed modeling to the waaaaay back burner, but I hope to return soon and post pics with at least less dust!
