Hello, I received a partial Marklin Z scale train minus a power pack and engine....I am looking to find a new, preferably matching, engine and power pack/transformer. I am hoping someone can help identify the correct engine that should be with this train...or point me in a direction where I can find out...any help would be appreciated.
miket007, I think this will help! Check out this! https://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_...Bavarian+S3+6+Class+4+6+2+Locomotive+C+10+NIB
Hi, Mike I think Walt is saying you should be looking for this loco in z scale to go with the rolling stock you have. It's an interesting looking loco. I don't recall ever seeing it before. Good Luck. Jim
Yes I should have waited before responding. Seems it's an 8892...sorry about that. Any thoughts or recommendations on a transformer for these?
Hi, Mike Since it is Marklin I'd say go with the Marklin transformer. There are 2 versions. The older blue boxy ones and the newer (15 years, or so) white ones that come with most Marklin starter sets. There are other models of transformers. MicroTrain makes a modified MRC one, Rokuhan makes an excellent one for their trains, but I've heard different about some other locos. Perhaps others who know more will help you. I hope you find a loco. Jim
Sorry I forgot I was on the Z scale section! But I thought the photo of the Engine might help you fine the right Engine for the coal car! Being Christmas my thought were else were! Thank you both and have a Merry Christmas!
Here is the right one hope this is much better. Not a bad price either! https://www.ebay.de/itm/MARKLIN-Z-S...STS-B-4-6-2-STEAM-ENGINE-TENDER-/292097125850
Welcome Back! It isn't really playing. You have arrived at the best of times for z scale. I've been at it since '94 and still don't have an operating layout. I'm still a working guy and don't have a lot of time. It is serious relaxation when I do work at it. A lot has changed in model railroading in general and in z scale specifically. There are z modelers out there who have some amazing layouts, rivalling and bettering, in my opinion, many of the more popular scales. For years it was very limited and expensive to model in z scale. Worse if you were modeling USA prototype. 3-d printing has added another dimension to the scale that was only recently thought impossible (check the SW1200 switcher in 3-d.) There are a couple of distributors of all the major manufacturers in z scale so it is easy to search for what you want. I have not bought trains on line from the e-marketplace in awhile. I would caution you to be cautious when buying a loco on line from someone who is not a dealer. It is easy to over pay for things. Others will be able to tell you what is reasonable. If I was modeling German railways I would certainly like to own one of those locos. It looks fast...Jim
Jim, I have bought about three loco's off E-bay and so far all were great brand new and still in box! They were all Marklin Z scale. I'm also not sure if the above like is good but e-bay does back up there site if someone gets ripped off. I got a bad building a while back and sent in a complaint and the person sending the building replaced it right away! The SW there is a brass A & B unit I have bought both and I'm working on them so when I'm done I will have two sets!
That is good to hear. I was thinking more about over paying. The price on this one is definitely fair. I still have not started my SW1200. I hope I can get to it in the next couple of months. I've seen some impressive versions of it. I'm sure yours will be a good one, too. It seems like a few folks have gotten z scale trains lately. That is good to hear. The more the merrier. Jim
With everybody getting decals printed maybe somebody will decide to come out with some z scale decals for general use. I could use letters and numbers. I use n scale mostly but have to shop around. Jim
I would surely suggest skip the (old) Marklin transformers and go with something like the snail controller. Much more control, less stopping, better low speed running & switching. E.g. http://www.ztrackcenter.com/electronics/snail-1 Matt
Thanks for all the help guys....I have been able to locate some matching engines and controllers...its up to me to make a decision now. Its too bad this set didn't have the engine when I got it....my inlaws gave these pieces to me....apparently it was gifted to them in complete condition with matching engine...my father inlaw sent the controller and engine off to a railroad model shop in NJ to have it professionally repaired...they received it and went MIA...couldn't get a phone call returned, no email responses...couldn't get the engine and controller back ...nothing...really pretty nasty thing to do. If that person is on here....might want to fess up. Anyhow I will be pulling the trigger on an engine and controller real soon and hope to be back ready to do more.
