This one is something I've posted before. I need to find it in my archives again, because I don't recall the location and I'm pretty sure she's no longer in Kodachrome.

Anyone in the Texas contingent make it down to Houston to see the funeral train?

Another shot from my excursion to Oklahoma last week. I was unable to get away to see the funeral train as I had an appointment that I could not reschedule. Many of my friends did get to go.

I was cleaning out a desk drawer a few days ago and found a snapshot from May 1993 as taken by my father. Here's N&W 611 at Flat Rock, NC, having just attained victory on the grade at Saluda. My wife and I are on board, dutch-dooring it with safety glasses and handkerchiefs to deter the cinders. Ahead is Asheville and a return east via the Old Fort line.

This portion of the line is intact today, but is rarely used and only for car storage by Blue Ridge Southern. :(

Those tall drivers on Saluda? Talk about conquered! Great stuff!

Must be taking it home to WY. Do not think they will repaint 4141 but it may get a honor role parking spot there.

Here are a couple of shots from last weekend's trip to Owosso. We went there for a totally unrelated purpose and the arrival back in town of the North Pole Express was an unplanned bonus. This is the peak excursion season for the 1225 and she was looking somewhat workworn, displaying road grime along with a layer of soot on a now several years old paint job. Also interesting to see that her winter curtains have been installed, but the cab windows are open on this unusually warm December day.
It wouldn't surprise me to see a fresh coat of paint applied before she hits the road again in the spring.

I had hoped for pics of the SRI's "new" engine, C&NW 175, but outside of a very brief and largely obscured look at her running gear, I had to content myself with this photo of her ex-NP tender. It looks like the coal space was once equipped with a cover. Could this tender have been used behind a rotary plow?

It must be something for the average driver to stop at the level crossing and wait for the train to pass, expecting the usual consist of diesels and a long train of freight cars, and then 1225 shows up, as if out of a time warp, belching smoke and steam out of its massive bulk. For those who still remember him, they'd be looking around to see if Rod Serling were standing nearby with his smoldering cigarette.

We just sit back, smell the smoke and steam, and enjoy the show. Maybe even look for that darn time warp.

Nope. Didn't see Rod Serling anyplace, but maybe I was too busy digging in the back seat for my camera. There may be something to that, though.
    One time warp coming up-

Rusting away in a Montenegro railyard. Are they American locomotives?

The one on the right looks somewhat like an EMD G16 export loco. Whatever is left seems to be in the right places.

I'm not sure about the one on the left. It looks like it's riding on GE trucks like those on their industrial locos from long ago. But the body looks like SW1500 or MP15.

Also, they used to "copy" portions of western equipment. So that might have influenced appearances.

The Yugoslav railways had EMD G26 locomotives that they called class 644s. After the breakup of Yougoslavia, some wound up in Montenegro when it gained independence from Serbia.

That bottom one may be EMD origins, but the cab and nose sure remind a person of an ALCo. :)

ALCO is what I was thinking for the one on the left. Cab looks like an RS1
