I need a UP CA4 caboose for a shortline RR. Here is a photo of the prototype: In about 1970 several of these were sold to the Montour RR which, at the time, was owned by the P&LE. No model of this exists in N scale to my knowledge. From what I can tell, the Atlas standard cupola caboose makes the best substitute at this time. See photo: However, my usual sources of supply are sold out. I would prefer undecorated as I would need to paint these and stripping paint has never been very high on my proficiency scores. Any recommendations? I hope the pictures make it through the posting process.
The old Golden West kit now RTR in the Centralia range from InterMountain is this car or a very close UP class. If the cars had the “Q” truck it is available in a very nice version from Eric Cox on Shapeways.
Perfect!!! Intermountain not only has the car in stock but has it in P&LE green which is what the Montour cars were painted.
