Was thrown a challenge by an N scale buddy. Told him before I accepted his challenge I needed to gain more info. So here's what he wants me to build in this N scale challenge build between me him and 6 other close modeling friends. A C630 high hood based off an NW unit with FM Trainmaster trade in trucks. Not sure if I can download a picture from rrfallenflags.org of #1136 or 1137. So what I need to know is will the Atlas Trainmaster truck frames fit the alco C630 truck frames as they look to both have an offset axle spacing. Can anyone please help me out here as i already have the C630, a C420 body for the high hood and a c420 high hood cab. And a few other items but stuck on the truck sideframes. Any help is very much appreciated.
Hi Although I haven't made that particular truck swap, it could work. I have swapped C40-8 trucks with the C-630, and others have swapped the Trainmaster trucks with the Atlas B40-8. The best option, if still available, is to get a Mark4 high short hood and cab. Not only is the work done for you, but Mark corrected an error with the Atlas cab. The window placement is incorrect on the Atlas model, in that it should be slightly offset to the rear. On the Mark4 cab Mark set the window closer to the short hood end which was correct for the long hood forward C-628s and C-630s. Small point and not a biggie I guess. I also think the Atlas C-420 cab roof is too flat, a better outcome may be achieved using the RS-11 cab, but other details may need changed. Cheers Steve
