Hi Folks: Im working on scratchbuilding a bunch of different kinds of freight cars, and need catwalk type grates for some of them, can someone suggest a good supplier -- id prefer them not be model specific, just strips of it etc Eventually, I'm hoping to set up for photoetching myself, but I cant afford the supplies right now Thanks TIM
I know you mentioned just getting strips but I've never come across just strips in my searching on the net. Gold Medal Models makes walkways for various types of commercially produced N scale freight cars. I've used their detailing set for ConCor well cars and was happy with their products. They very well could work for scratch built equipment of similar style. Plano also makes some walkways for various types of equipment. I've not tried these. Engineering makes a 3"X4" fret of etched stainless ultra-fine mesh. I've been looking at using this to replace the as delivered thick plastic walkways on some Walthers N scale coil cars I have. There is a square mesh or a diagonal mesh depending on what one is trying to replicate. While it's a sheet, you can size and cut your own from it. I'm probably forgetting another source or 2 for N sized mesh or walkways as well. These are the only ones I can think of atm.
