BNSF's done a nice job of prettying that old locomotive up, eh? Look, it's even got air conditioning! .
Interesting, look at the front numberboard area, it sticks out so far. I've never seen that on any other BNSF loco.
Yea, it's kind of an odd duck. I wonder if it's something to do with the air conditioning? Or possibly that little .. um .. "catwalk" thing up there? Maybe it's a place to stand to direct the training or some such? .
Interesting, the GP25 is apparently a downrated GP50, 2500hp. Looks like all of them that have been rebuilt have air conditioning, or at least the several pictures I saw. None of them seem to have that odd overhang though, so I expect that is something to do with the hazmat training.
Another from my b&w days, with B&O GP-40-2 No. 4226 at East Lansing, MI on former C&O in the fall of 1976 I think. The line being crossed is the GTW.
Great photos. Very sharp and clear images sure wish we hadn't loss all these RRs to the mega mergers.
Great shots. Would have loved to have been able to see the Chicago area commuter scene back then. So much variety.
Some slightly newer Chicagoland commuter power. Next to the former Soo Line yard in Bensenville - May 2010
Thanks much Tom and BNSF FAN. I wish I'd have captured more photos at the time, but I was a teen with no car and no money. I'm so glad that these photos were saved.
Nice! I like the look of the F40PH, a sort of modern F. A friend and I stopped at Bensenville in February 1976 where I shot almost new MP15ACs 480 and 485.
