I sure wish I had a collection of historical photos covering the Mohawk Division, to rival your of the Big Four. Another nice history post, Roger.
As I have been looking over the photos I have posted over the years, I am amazed at how many I have posted.
Along the right side where the telephone pole is almost out of the picture was where the water tank was located . This tank had a high water pressure when the valve was opened . When I was taking water my 140 lbs. would not hold the spout down in the tank . My solution was to put something on the lid and through a loop on the tank top, or stand on water spout and tank lid ,get my shoulder and back under the frame work and fill the tank . Coming south one night we were going to take water for some reason because through trains did not normally take water at Summitville . Bob Steirwalt was deadheading to Anderson for some job . Bob said he would take water because the light weight , me , would be all night. Who was I to object ,and Bob put the spout in pulls the water valve and we hear the water running . All at once we hear Bob yell and we look out and he is hanging on the end of the water spout with Bob hanging on to it . The spout had threw him from the tank and his weight had pulled the spout down as far as it would go and Bob being 6 ft. tall his feet were only 3 ft. from the ground . Bob was not hurt and dropped to the ground ,but getting on the engine looked like a drowned dog . I wanted to say something but he looked so pitiful I kept my mouth shut . This proves that you never know where it is to come from . LEW
