Thanks for the photos, I may just have to break my no more locomotives rule!

I purchased several and they are top notch. The detail is the best out there and they run like a KATO.I could live with them but I might look to change out the couplers as they don't "easily" couple.
Need to see what MT coupler fits.
The sound is very good and loud; I turned mine down to a master volume of 100
The lighting options are amazing for n scale - out of the box!
I quickly speed matched them to my layout spec.with JMRI and came up with min 3, mid 55 and max of 110. Otherwise, out of the box, they are like way too fast on the top end
I tried to do a read all sheets within JMRI and it seemed to have stalled out after about 90 minutes. I would like to get all the default settings that Scale Trains has altered from the standard decoder settings because doing a reset on these decoders and not having the initial settings would not be good.
Has anybody been able to do a complete read back within JMRI and how long did it take?

Maybe a LokProgrammer is in my future; hopefully not.
Again, the detail and the running performance justify the price regardless of whether sound is your thing. I haven't taken a look under the hood and haven't tested them extensively but I am very, very impressed. Their storage box is 3 times the size of a jewelers box and the packaging will definitely protect the model. I just can't see myself trying to open that plastic "Rubik's cube" packaging each time to take out or put back a loco each time.
This is one model you want to gently handle and store, with all the detailed parts. Maybe I will make some custom foam cradles.

I've been in N Scale for many, many years and it's nice to see the progress and choices!

The decoder's "defaults" should be the as-delivered sound project. Not the non-specific generic decoder (which ships with just a test file loaded to it). I would expect either ESU or ScaleTrains to also make the sound project available fairly soon.

In JMRI, don't do a "Read all sheets" for any LokSound decoder. Instead, unfortunately, you will need to do individual Read Full Sheet. The Sounds and Function Map sheets have hundreds of CVs associated with them, and as you noted, can take quite a while. A LokProgrammer will read all the CVs in 1-2 minutes, and the LP software can export the CV list for import into a JMRI profile.

LokProgrammer is definitely needed for ESU sound decoders

Thanks Rick and David for the info. Looks like I will be looking into a LokProgrammer.

I was THIS CLOSE to scraping it off with an X-acto, thinking it was some sort of protective paper covering/sticker.

I just received mine, UP. The detail is amazing and it runs great.

Does anyone else think the color used for the antiskid material on the walkways and top of nose is too light? Comparing it to prototype photos it seems too close to white.

That’s not a criticism, more of a question for those who may be more knowledgeable on the topic.

    Thanks

It's not the end of the world, some careful masking and a dusting of light gray will take care of it. It's still a great loco!

The color on the antiskid surfaces is very close to the color on the newer slug sets. I haven't had a chance to compare it to the new GEVOs, but I can't imagine UP using two different colors at the same time. They may have recently changed. I'll pay more attention.
