I always had the dream of a model railroad but now I begin. I bought an EMD SD60M DCC, some waggons and a Minitrix DCC system used from ebay to begin my journey in n-scale. But now i just need an idea and some track to run them and that's where I would like to get some help from you.

As a complete beginner I want do build a switching layout with 4 t-trak modules first. Because I don't have an imagination of the space I need would this be enough to fit an (improved) inglenook with 50'-60' cars? How deep should this be? I think the depth in this situation should be 14-3/8" like the corner design even if I like 8-1/4" more? :D

I like the time between 80s-now but is there a huge difference in train era? I read the 80s where not a great time for railroads but this is also a nice theme. But anyways I think Icould change the time by just replaycing something if I want.

What i want is a city city environment like New York, Chicago etc. (something like http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/sites/model-railroad-hobbyist.com/files/users/ray o/tw 0664 NH rs1(1).jpg) and if possible street running. I don't want so model an exact spot because I've never visited USA so I have no imagination what I would like so you're free with your ideas. I thought about an area with switching and a small passenger station (something I don't see often on layouts) like in this video at Brockville.

Enough for this post. Feel free to comment :)

Meet the Inglenook Grain Co-Op on a T-Trak Quint set (a double and a triple). It is a classic 5-3-3 Inglenook set up for 50 foot cars and Atlas GP length locomotives (SD-7s, 9s, 24s & 26s also work well). Works well with MicroTrains, Walthers, and Trainworx PS-2 covered hoppers and MicroTrains 94000 Series trough hatch covered hoppers. I also plan on picking up some of the new MT Airslides to try out soon. You can use any 50' car with this track plan. I had originally planed on using 50' per diem box cars but changed to covered hoppers. When using for operations with car cards or switch lists, the plan has a 3 car capacity Grain Spur and a 3 car capacity Team Track along with a 5 car storage track.

Here is the link to my original post explaining everything with images.

See what you can find of the N Scale model railroad scenes built by Bill Denton. Known as "The Kingsbury Branch". Taken from the real life Milwaukee Road, (Chicago, Illinois), 1970's. It had been pictured and published numerous time in modeling magazines. Beautiful and I am sure it would inspire you!
