69 is the magic number, but it is all of life's chores and responsibilities that slow down the most intrepid builder. And I believe you would have it done by Thanksgiving.............or sooner
Loren this is great! I am so happy to hear the club has provided the space for Z scale. It will be a perfect edition! Time to represent what our scale has to offer! Rob
My ex wife moved to Medford just this past December; she has yet to mention you have a Railroad Park... I'll be coming down sometime in the next month or so and will check it out; it there a website to see hours, etc.? Mark in Waldport (Central Coast)
Mark, you need to come and see the park and also drop by my home layout for a tour. Here's the park website......http://southernoregonlivesteamers.com/
Rob, This is a dream I've had for several years, but never thought it would just be dumped in my lap so nicely. If the venue were larger it would only take more time to develop and time will be the difficult thing to find for construction. We all know how long it takes to build something special. I do think this layout will open a lot of eyes to Z scale. I do need to look into cloning myself a few times.........
Today Joe and I spent some time planning and as you can see the first item of business is to do some measuring. We will likely install some flood lights on the ceiling, a different ceiling light, change some wiring and cover a couple of windows. I also have some outside siding to replace where the weather did a number on it, but for now, we are scratching our gray matter to get a feasible track plan designed and will likely use a lot of blue foam with as light a support frame as we can get away with.
Didn't see Joe's reply, but his calculation is actually more correct as we will have a small corner to sit at and greet folks and share train talk.
Kurt, Funny you should ask..........not really, but seems that some folks are very impatient about seeing instant results on new ideas. I was the only one doing anything in Z here in Medford and when I hadn't made any noticeable progress on the Z layout, the club that owns the building, and had given me permission to build a layout decided there wasn't enough action going on and decided to pull the rug out from under me. They took back possession of the building and decided to use the building for a museum type structure. I guess I can't really complain since I had no help in the wings willing to participate that I can think of. Joe is always very busy with MTL projects so I can understand him not being excited about spending many hours down at a new construction site. I have been very busy with life in general so I can't really complain anyway. I had almost decided that going it alone would be a very lonely experience for which I was not prepared to marry a new project, especially when I can't seem to find time to work on my home layout. So, SOZME only lives in my train room at home and will always gladly share with anyone who stops by. I have had one private showing already with 19 in attendance and that was a room full to say the least.
Dang Loren, so sorry to hear that. What a bummer. If only I was about 400 miles closer...... Next time I'm down there in the area, I'll try to get ahold of ya'!
And your link to stonebridge models in your signature is still broke Loren.. maybe change the link to Z scale monster? Greg
Tis a shame, it's not like there is a dedicated-display Z layout in every town and city in the US. If I was running a competitive model railroad company and had the opportunity to donate a model railroad display (with appropriate appreciative signage of course) to a publicly displayed model railroad in my competitors HQ city, I would have flown one there in a NY minute. Maybe even carved off an 8'x9' chunk of an old Swiss railroad display I had lying around and sent that. But then again model railroad Empire Builders like Joshua Lionel Cowen are long gone.
