As some of you know, I moved to a house with a basement. It had to be finished. This was completed & today it starts. Picked up plywood, foam board, screws, nails & glue. A work session or 12 will be very soon. It will include parts of my old layout. I'm looking at 7-8 mainlines, big passing sidings, branch lines & street running. I'll keep you up to date on the progress.
HAINESBURG VIADUCT SCRATCH BUILT BY SCOTT LUPIA & GIVEN TO ME YEARS AGO WHEN I GOT SICK. IT WILL BE A FOCAL POINT & CENTERPIECE OF THE LAYOUT.
Great to see you have a cool new layout room Mike. I have seen some things built/modeled by Scott so that Viaduct must be top notch. Those tractor trailers sitting above your work desk look pretty cool as well.
I can't wait to see the viaduct in place! It'll speak LACKAWANNA in a big way. Above me right now is an old photo taken in the early '50s of an NYS&W freight beneath the viaduct. When I think of this area, I often recall a photo caption in Krause & Crists' book (c. 1980) on the NYS&W where they write "The viaduct has lost none of its beauty in almost 70 Years of service, and the natural beauty of the area around it remains unspoiled, but for the train watcher, the valley of the Paulins Kill has a sad emptiness." To think that the DL&W, NYS&W and L&NE all came to call on and below its graceful arches, and that no rails remain, is indeed sad.
