I've been without a layout since I dismantled my fairly large N scale layout a few years ago. Since then, I've began accumulating Z scale stuff just for fun. Recently, I got the urge to run some trains so I ended up building a couple of small tabletop sized Z scale layouts to get my fix. I really enjoyed the projects and hopefully this will inspire me to get back into modelling even more. Here are some photos of the second layout. It's about 36"x 20" and built on a base of extruded foam board. I used MTL sectional track and Woodland Scenics landscaping supplies. Not much "operating" potential other than just making the loop but that's good enough for me. 1 (1).jpg 1 (6).jpg 1 (7).jpg 1 (11).jpg 1 (12).jpg

Thanks... I tried to keep it really simple so I can just watch some trains. No roads, buildings or switches allowed me finish it in a just a few days. The foliage is pretty sparse for the same reason. I'll probably make another one with a little more greenery soon. I'm using these layouts to experiment on some techniques such as painting the track. On the first layout I didn't paint the track but this one I sprayed it with Krylon camo flat brown. I think it really helped tone down the shiny rails and gray roadbed to blend in more with the scenery.

Very nice job. It's easy to overthink it and disappear down the rabbit hole. The elevations flow nicely and fit with each other. I also like the way you did the scenery. I have a weakness for small layouts. Proper job.

Nice work. The scenery is plain, but looks natural.

Love it. I’ve been building up an Nn3 roster of kit built loos and rolling stock. I’m about to begin a micro layout journey.

The MTL track looks good with the weathering. Was that done with a wash or airbrush?

Thanks.. I just used a can of Krylon camo flat brown and made multiple light horizontal passes. This kept most of the paint from between the rails and ties. Immediately after spraying I just wiped the rails clean.

Great work. Amazing the difference weathering the track makes to a layout, finished or otherwise.
