I did it the hard way, Phillip - took a picture of a solar panel, reduced it way down and printed it. I did several different sizes so I'd have the right one. Not overly delighted with them, but not displeased either.

    And thanks Mike!

Continuing with PTC equipment on The Sub.

This setup is at the Bealville crossovers - a folding tower.

A similar situation is at CP Cliff, where the engineering department had to install a retaining wall to make room for the gear:

I actually saw a similar setup in South Dakota a couple days ago.

    Here's Oakville's contribution:

And lastly a shot showing overall positioning at Oakville. The DQ is to the left of the water tower.

Ryan, the research I did showed none of those types of antenna in my prototype area...nor have I seen any in my railfanning. Is this maybe an East Coast thing?

Many railroads use ATCS including UP. I run an ATCS server that covers about 200 miles of track around far Northern California (Dunsmuir, CA). Every control point needs to communicate and many have an ATCS antenna of varying heights.

I just did a search and found this info about the Tehachapi area:
"...in the Tehachapi area, Ilmon to Cliff and Marcel to Tehachapi are not via radio codeline, so not visible on ATCS. If you have internet access, you can see the rest of the Mojave Sub on ATCS."
So if your prototype falls between those, you are correct that no ATCS antennas exist.

Here are a few photos. First is Azalea (just south of Mt. Shasta, CA).
Second is Black Butte, CA (near Weed, CA).
    Last is from Chico, CA.

Thank you Ed and Eugen. Look for an article on equipping your layout for PTC soon in N-Scale magazine...

Jim, sorry myself. I don't know what I saw. I thought you mentioned adding onto your layout.

As always Jim, your layout and your photos are both amazing and also humbling to see. You continue to inspire me to make my scenery better!

    David (and all :)

I am the one to be humbled by your praise. I stumble along doing the best I can.

I'm 76, and will gain another year in February. The thoughts now are should I take the Sub down and maybe do some modules...but where would I put the eight trains that are in staging ready for their next run?

I need to be honest with myself also - seems like I prefer building and modifying and experimenting to running...but it sure is nice to bring a train out and watch it run.

No decisions are imminent. But what do you do with a complete four wind turbine train? And what do you do with a 108 car earthworm with distributed power?

I still have my health but the stairs ain't gettin' any easier...

    Deep thoughts.

    Jim,

I understand your predicament. But maybe it is time to say, done on the sub and just play! Modules will never be as good or as fun.
