This morning (12/21/2017) TCS announced they are going beyond the boards and showed the prototype of their own handheld throttle connected by WiFi to their own DCC Command Station. Does anyone know much about this product. I would have hoped they would have used Blue Tooth communications protocols between throttle and command station and included read back. Not sure what capabilities really are. Blue Rail may still be better option. Ken Adams
Wi-Fi is a more robust connection, and better for a handheld throttle. Bluetooth was never designed as a LAN, only a PAN. Yes I know you can get high power bluetooth. Greg
It is a pure DCC system and uses WiFi talking the JMRI WiFi Throttle protocol. So the WiFi handset can talk to any JMRI system and/or the TSC DCVC base station. A good discussion of the handset and more details about the whole system can be found at http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/31950
