10/19/2017 at Emory Gap, TN on the Rathole. This spot was also once the easternmost point on the 286 Mile Tennessee Central which quit almost 50 Years ago. Amazingly, the TC's yard office remains employed by NS and is seen in the second photo.
CP Holiday Train visited Minot on 14 Dec. In the second photo, although hundreds have come out, and there's no available parking for several blocks in all directions, people continue to come out and try to find parking.
I am not sure of the heritage of this car, but it is looking worse for wear than it was a couple of years ago.
May 2017, and I didn't know it then, but this shot will change forever. A local developer will build over 50 new homes, forever spoiling the timeless view at Tunnel 1. The homes will be built on both sides of the tunnel, facing the tracks. I have had this shot for quite some time, but at the time, I couldn't get it to upload properly. Now that this pristine, timeless view is threatened, it's time to get those shots. http://arvada.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=2949750d2d70425f85592166b95906fd
Wow -- that's an outstanding photograph Hemi. You captured my favorite kind of rail photography, with the train somewhat distanced and surrounded by beautiful scenery. It's often a difficult assignment in these modern times with billboards, phone wires, trees, fences and parking lots spoiling compositions. You hit a grand slam here. Such a shame that the beauty that filled your viewfinder will soon be lost .....
Thanks, Hardcoaler! I love the mountains. If I could live nearer the Moffat, I would! I try to focus on eliminating human influence from my photos where possible. Just the trains and scenery as unspoiled as possible. The clean leader was a bonus.
Indeed. And with traffic on the Moffat being down, there won't likely be any trains going by during the prospective homebuyer's visit. Surprise!
