Those gondolas are ex-ATSF cars from the 93000-94000 (approximate) series. They might be on MOW trains now, but they were designed for copper anode pellets. Here is a BNSF executive SD70MAC I saw a few weeks ago. It is a frame from a video, so it is not the best quality.
Mingled smells of cow manure and coal smoke can only mean one thing- Pere Marquette 1225 is running in Mid Michigan again. That happened Saturday when 1225 pulled a trip from Alma, MI to Owosso and return. At the road overpass, Ithaca, MI: Southeast of North Star, MI Ashley, MI: After arriving in Owosso, the short trip over to Durand Union Station was a must. This tie replacement train showed up shortly afterward.
Guess cause I am not Canadian those engines look so cool, especially the red and black ones? And I always wanted to ask what does Soo stand for? And not a big Steam Engine person either, but that thing is beautiful, amazing photographs especially the last one of the Steam Engine. Is that the EPA on the side of the road waiting to take them in Great photo's from everyone!
I believe you mean Soo, as in Soo Line. Shortened form of the old name of Minneapolis, St Pault and Sault Ste Marie, coming from the pronunciation of "Sault."
A sequentially numbered pair of GP's in the early scheme. Saw these yesterday afternoon on the east end of town.
In2tech- "Sault" is from the french language (I don't know the English equivalent) and is pronounces "Soo"!! Jim
CEFX 1027, taken on 10/27!! At South Seattle, on the BNSF. You older "Trains" magazine readers also know the "1027" is a special number......
This is the BNSF NB light loco movement to Interbay that the 1027 was in, usually these are on the Union Pacific tracks in the foreground. Unusual move.....
"The Soo Line" was the nickname of the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie RR. In 1961, the MSt.P&SSM, along with subsidiary companies (Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic; Wisconsin Central RY), merged and the company name was officially changed to The Soo Line RR. Pronunciation history of Soo/Sault already explained. "Soo" being spoken as the girl's name "Sue".
