We are officially rounding that last curve of the week and heading at notch eight for the weekend. Time to lay out those plans for the weekend. Saturday: With Trainfest only two weeks away, I'm hitting crunch time. With the weather being cold and yucky this weekend, that means the distractions from Jess are gone and time in the garage will probably be at a minimum. I started last night by getting the upstairs workshop cleared off and placed the two decoders for one NW-2 and one GP30 with their associated CB&Q locomotives. I really need to get the NW-2 cleaned up, and ready as it is one of the main locomotives I'll be using Saturday at Trainfest. In between all the locomotive work, I'll be working on the Mk. IV module. I finished the main box last weekend and have all the hardware and mounts cut for the folding legs. If I'm not distracted, I'll have the module standing on legs by Monday. Sunday: I plan to finish up any locomotives that need work, both CB&Q and BN. My buddy has been busy with his modules, getting roads done, adding structures etc. Since my current three modules are to be replaced in 2018, I won't have anything new to contribute to this years Trainfest. There is no sense in adding to the modules at this point, although the buildings may need some work. If the new module progresses as I hope, I want to sand it down along with my Inglenook module and get both stained. Both modules are made of Birch and the wood grain looks nice, why not put a coat of stain and clear varnish rather than the standard black or green paint? Hopefully time will be on my side this weekend as I still need to organize and get freight cars ready and switch lists printed. Either way, it looks like a busy weekend! So how about you? What do you have planned for this weekend? Let us know. We'll come back here on Monday the 30th to see how we all did. Until then, have a great weekend, stay safe and warm and as always... High Greens!
This will be the final weekend, before our daughter's wedding (Next Tuesday) - Yeah - they are getting married on all hallows eve. Don't ask!! LOL With that - again, my modeling plans are up in the air. Hopefully, I will get to work on my SD-9's. - I'll report on Monday. Hope Y'all have a great weekend, Wolf
Friday and Saturday modeling is nixed - my oldest son turned 7 today and he and I are celebrating by going camping with his Cub Scout Pack. If the weather holds we break camp at 9AM on Sunday, so I'm hoping to get a couple of hours in on Sunday afternoon after we get back.
I'm planning on working some more on my track plan. It looks like I'll have some time as I will be spending part of tomorrow watching my dad, whose going through some tough medical times, to cut my mom a break, so I may or may not have time then. Maybe I'll finally learn the quirks of XTrkCad! As part of that, I will also be doing some sketching and do a little research.
I will accompany the P&W excursion train as management from Worcester to Old Saybrook- Essex Ct. this weekend.
We're supposed to get rain all day Sunday, so that sounds like my best day to get some train time in. I'm thinking that I just need to sit down for little bits of stolen time to get mini-projects done. Assemble a white-metal car, solder some feeder wires to the the new lights, that kind of stuff. I've been wanting to wait for a large chunk of free time, and it hasn't been there for me, so maybe I can build some momentum that way.
I finally got the three carts for my staging yard cleaned up from the scenicing I did and now it’s time to move to the next project. My foldaway section that crosses the door frame. When I lifted it up and placed it in it spot I noticed I have some broken track. Looks like I get to do some on the fly engineering to fix the problems and then I will wire the section. Then maybe I will attempt to run a train over it..
