I want to replace the motors on a set of ABBA Baldwin Sharks imported by E R Models. With the current motors the engines run at vastly different speeds. I am not seeking to put DCC into these locomotives. These locomotives were actually made by Bachmann and the possibility therefore exists that they may have off the shelf Bachmann motors in them. I checked Spookshow's website and current parts availability is uncertain. So the question is whether a Bachmann motor is a drop in replacement for these locomotives.

Honestly, I don't know what motor they used. I would private message Spookshow, he has an account here...

I rechassised my set of sharks with a Like Like FA2 chassis. They're getting scarce, but can be found on the evilbay from time to time.
Took a bit of cutting to make them fit, but well worth it in performance.

I used the kato rs3 chassis to repower my sharks. ED

The RS-3 chassis would be easier to fit and if the classic, easier to dcc, but the wheelbase on the FA2 is closer.

Overall, RS-3 sounds like another good option and probably easier to obtain.

Thanks for the replies. All of the alternate chassis mention have one big factor against them and that is cost. Remember this for an ABBA set of sharks so we are talking about a couple of hundred bucks for new chassis and with that the wheel base would not be the same. Meanwhile, I have a couple of old Bachmann F7/9s laying around somewhere. You know the ones with the split gears. Where they are is unknown. So I was thinking maybe, just maybe, when Bachmann manufactured these sharks for ER they used off the shelf components. So my intent was to determine if anyone tried a similar swap and the results before I made the attempt to find my Bachmann F units that I quite literally have not seen in over 20 years. Based on Point353's post above it looks like a search is indicated.

is the wheel base different? because I repowered my fa's with the rs3 chassis as well. and the wheel base looked the same.

I think Bachmann used the same motor with different flywheels in multiple models. Either the PCC Trolley or the Dash 8-40C motor might work if you can swap out the flywheels.

Maybe not the flywheels so much as the universal joints.

This is on my bucket list of things to do. First thing is I got to find my Baldwin F units as these are the only old Bachmann Nscale units I have.
