Unless I'm just totally wrong, I WOULD be disappointed since it is HO scale (or did Varney make N scale at some time?). Also love the "SANTA FE ENGINE-BLACK ENGINE MADE IN AUSTRIA-A (BROKEN)". Switcher is missing coupler in front, has broken step at back and paint is damaged and scratched.

Maybe it's not for rivet counters. :)

I suppose Varney might have made a trainset in N scale, I really don't remember. But I very much doubt that anyone made hook-horn couplers in N scale, I am sure I would remember.

I cannot grasp the logic of an eBay Seller like this with hundreds of offerings under $5 plus freight. Considering the time it takes to sell, how can there be any profit? Whether posting junk for cheap or junk for high prices as we often see, these Sellers are an unusual breed that serve mostly to fill search results with trash.

Yup. Exactly. A common junk box item.

From my perspective, it is some sort of psychological need. Having the listings on that site makes them feel known, noticed, important. Any sales thereafter are a bonus.

They could be retired, have lots of time on their hand and just something to keep busy with.

"Is there a separate listing for the rail joiners?"

He might have a piece of roadbed in his store to go along with it

:) Most certainly, likely posted by the same Seller with a unit-of-issue of 1 Ea and Buy It Now price of $0.01 with Free Shipping. <g>

Isn't that what the screens on the side for? So the passengers can see out?

Ha ha. Even better, the category is "Other N Scale". Other, meaning it is N, but on steroids? :)
