Hello all, I found a Craiglist post selling an older Digitrax DB100+ and a CT4 throttle for $60. Would this work for a DCC system, or is it incomplete? Thank you, David in Seattle
I can't answer the question, you asked, so I'll insert my unsolicited thought. I'd spend $60 getting DCC++ up and running, before I'd buy a used DCC system, on Craig's list. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have a working DCC++ on a $15 Arduino board with a $15 MotorBoard (a short 1" wire) and a $2 12V 2Amp wall wart. I have full control of all engine and sound functions, but I have two engines that will not keep the written CV values (they are both at Address Id of 3). The engine(s) manufacturer doesn't support anything except a retail DCC system for programming. I didn't want to buy a $150 new system just to program the CV values, so was hoping (by asking here) if this would work. Yes it's old, but will that throttle + DB100+ work (with power and wires to the tracks)? The seller doesn't know anymore. David in Seattle
$60 is a decent price for that DB100+ booster. It is a very early Digitrax Challenger DCC system BUT it is not loconet compatible. That being said, the DB100+ can be used with current Digitrax systems as a booster. It will work with most any other DCC system but also only as a booster. It would also require a power supply to be purchased as well. Personnaly, I would go with another more current system or DCC++ depending on your skill level. The later systems are pretty resonable and so much more capable than the old Challenger. Martin Myers
I don't know anything about DCC++, except what it is. Does it not have an ability to connect with decoderpro to program decoders? Anyway, if I may suggest, since it sounds like you want something to program decoders rather than the DB100 etc why not get the newest PR3 and hook it to decoderpro as a standalone used on a separate track for programming? It will do most every decoder, except maybe loksound ones. That might solve your problem? What make decoders are you having a problem with? tom
I'm afraid I agree with Marty and Martin. You can buy the unit in question and give it a try. It may or may not work with your current system. Downside, buying used electronics is never a good idea. Leaverite, as in leave her right there. Let the buyer beware. More on this subject can be found on BarstowRick.com. See: Buying Hazards
If you are just needing to program, get the Digitrax PR3. It can power the a programming track and connects to the computer using USB connection. Get JMRI, makes the programming so much easier and it is free!
