I am in the process of building this unique D&RGW GP40-2. It was delivered to the D&RGW in December of 1972, with four chicken wire radiator grills. Sometime after 1984, it was shopped, and returned to service with three (3) corrugated radiator grills, and one original chicken wire grill. The 3114, 3115 and 3116 all came from EMD with a unique exhaust silencer, prelude to the GP60 style. So I have the Cannon & Co. grills, but need to hack up an Athearn GP 60 DB hatch to get the exhaust box that I need. Below are some photos, some are mine, some are not. This loco lives on as UP 1367, with the same radiator covers.... If you know WHY this unit was treated in such a fashion, pleas let me know!
Now you have me curious about what happened. I'd suppose the first thing a person thinks of is accident damage.
That's what I initially thought, but the folks that keep records on these things, have no record of wreck damage. Sent from my IdeaTab S6000-F using Tapatalk
This is Tom Fassett'e photo of 3114's roof. Notice the GP60ish exhaust box. Now I have to bash a GP60 DB hatch and a GP40-2 hatch to get this look....Also just checked the supply box, we'll go with Cannon & Co fans for the DB and radiators....
I like it Paul! I enjoy all these little differences. As for the different screens. I would propose that Burnham bolted whatever they had handy that fit. Now that your prolly done with the surgery on the Dynamic blister, this Details Associates part is a dead ringer for what you want.
Well, that will fit the bill for the 3115 & 3116! How did you know that I had just finished my DB hatch? Sent from my IdeaTab S6000-F using Tapatalk
Thats just the way this stuff goes for me LOL. I build what I think is a unique model, only to see it mass produced. Think I will go out and run some trains..
Working on the 3114 tonight. Got the hole cut out for the new corrugated radiator grills. Got the hole cut for the Details West HL-137 Mars noes light. I have removed the cab in preparation to add sunshades and I will get started on adding a DW 155 snow plow, as well as MU cable packages front and rear. Still debating if I should put Cannon and Company radiator fans on....I did the Dynamic Brake hatch several weeks ago, it has the Cannon & Company DB fan in it.
Well, it's still a viable project. It's just on hiatus while I get the holes for the radiator fans cut out. Sent from my IdeaTab S6000-F using Tapatalk
I am currently working on placing Plano roof walk and ladders on some Atlas cabooses. When I get these two done, I will get back to the 3114.
