so the real K4 had 80 inch drivers and most models end up a few inches short. Does anyone know what the drivers on the model scale out to? Thinking of using the chassis for another P-8 project instead of going with a model power USRA chassis. The drivers on the P-8s were 73"
That's great news. Just picked up a bman vandy tender to chop. Now I'll have to get an engine. But first I have to move....unfortunately the layout went to storage for a few years.
SPsteam I have a B'mann Light Mountain that i was not happy with and tore it down "to the bones". I would be most happy to donate this to your project, if you are interested send me a PM with your address. Carl Sowell
SPsteam, The shell and parts are in today's mail. I told the clerk that I wanted the least expensive rate so it may go by pony express. That could be as good as all the "fancy" boxes and rates they have. Above all, have fun and we all look forward to seeing your progress. Carl
Why are you using a light mountain for a P-8? Isn't the Rivarossi Pacific/Mikado shell much closer? Just asking questions as I have bashed more than a few SP engines myself (next project is a T-31)
The light mountain shell has better detail than the older rivarossi shell. The P8 also had a slightly smaller boiler than a USRA heavy pacific and I think it looks a tad closer. The shell will have to be shortened, but that is an easy task.
