Bubbles in the water

I am just getting back to my (first ever) layout after having to set it aside for over a year. When I last worked on my layout I created a little pond. I used Woodland Scenics Realistic Water. At first it looked great. Over time, the pond developed bubbles.

Under the pond, the base is pink styrofoam coated with latex paint.

In another spot I made a river running under a bridge. In this spot, no bubbles. This time the water is on painted wood. No styrofoam.

So I take it, the foam is the issue. The question is, what should I have done differently? And, is there any way to remedy my bubbles, or should I just carve out the pond and start again?

    Thanks for the help!

Jason, Live and learn. Foam is the issue. I build all my lakes and ponds on top of plywood. I would describe here how I do it, but you can go to this link: http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/...-Pinacle-Creek-Mining-amp-Timber-Co-RR/page65

And find out a fool proof method. This is my site on another place and it is approaching 600,000 views in just five years. Take a look, virtually every question you have on layouts, scenery and photography are mentioned therein. Jim

Thanks! That's quite the thread. I'm going to need a weekend just to read it all. :)

Thank you Jason. Maybe four weekends. There are four or five different layouts in the thread. I try to use different techniques, with as little cost as possible, to achieve more than acceptable results even for newbies. It cost nothing, simply free advice from me and others. Jim
