Thanks! Hemi! I'm back!j Phew, was going through some serious shakes not being able to post. It was my screwup compounded by Murphy. So, any questions on the yard designs? Any Ideas? Thanks! Charllie and TrainBoard Staff for the very very rapid fix of _my_ mistake! This forum is well worth the price of a top end loco any time. I encourage everyone to contribute! I will do so every year. Steve, Many thanks for the photos which I have kept and will study at my leisure. It does answer all my questions. The compound ladder offers extra track length in a given area rather than extra tracks. In the photos there are six tracks in the yard whichever type of ladder you have used. Again, many thanks. Regards, Dave
David, You are most welcome. I will be using the compound ladder even though it will require a signifigant re design of the aproach to the yard lead and aproach to the interchange track, (at the bottom). Still it will be worth it.
Steve - The Grey One, I'm hesitant to start another thread on BiPolar Capacitor-Discharge turnout control. I can't keep up with those already in existance. Please go to http://forum.atlasrr.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19746 for the latest discussion on the circuit. Note that it is not a place for opinions or discussion on alternate methods, just on the BCD circuit and experience with it. If you want the full story on BCD, get the May and June issues of Mainline Modeler. The circuits are fully discussed, parts list is included, and route-control using BCD is presented.
Steve, Just thought you might be interested to know that, as a result of your photos I have now managed to plan my yard using #6 turnouts which are my preferred type. I have been messing about this afternoon and managed to fit in just what I needed. Many thanks, it has been a very useful thread. Regards, Dave
You can use use both Kato # 6 turnouts as well as # 4 turnouts in a yard and get the best of both worlds. Stay cool and run steam......
One more variation on a theme: Storage: 210 Inches Up side: I won't have to move access to the yard throat which would be a pain. Has more of a "clasification yard" feel to it. Down Side: Manual turnout controls are in tight to reach places for 2 of the turnouts.
