Rollins Pass sign at Winter Park

The official elevation at Corona, the summit, was 11,660', although some sources list it as 11,671'.....

I wonder how many people know in depth the history behind this sign?

Due to its location, likely not many. Alaska GP49 and I passed it as we ripped on down US40 thru Winter Park. I asked Mike to turn around so I could get a shot of the sign. I'm sure most folks never even notice it in their rush to get lattes, and hit the ski resorts.:(
It is a significant area in CO rail history, however, and the highest adhesion rail line ever operated in the US.

One of my books notes that when the Hill line was dismantled in 1935, that a section of rail laid at Corona *the summit* was removed, and sent to Republic Steel's museum, who rolled it in 1903, signifying the highest rail in America.

I wonder about the choice of wording used on that sign. Too many folks probably see the "Road" and assume other than railroad...

Route might have been better. So that Joe General Public might not immediately think asphalt and rubber tires...
