This SD40-2 leaser leads 3 GP38-2s and a mixed freight. Just came off the K&A branchline.

I can't think of what the "K&A" represents? Knoxville &?

Augusta. They never finished it though. I thought it ment Alcoa until a friend told me some history about it.

Interesting. The only Augusta that comes quickly into mind, is in Georgia. Is there another town by that name in the region?

I believe it was meant to go to Augusta, GA. That would have taken it through the mountains. Not sure exactly how far Southern actually took that line. It stops now in Maryville, TN which used (still might)to have a depot. I'll see if I can get more specifics.

Railroad names can be fun to explore. They were often from very grand schemes. Whereas the end result was much less in scope. Such as companies that used "Pacific" in the title. :D
