Looks like a straight SD40 to me, Flexicoil trucks, no large porches, etc... Then again, what do I know about DM&E?;)
What does the engine's lettering say?
Very interesting heritage in this unit--the class light above the numberboards, and forward-mounted bell on the cab screams former Canadian unit....

At from this angle, it does look like an SD40. Their classification is SD40-3.

      Hemi,
I think you are right about it being an ex-CP unit. From what i have read in Trains Magazine ICE used to be owned by CP. When the parent company of DME purchased ICE they may have gotten a deal on some old SD-40's also.

As for the side, it says: "Dedicated to the employee spirit that saved and rebuilt a railroad, and now shapes its future."

ICE was previously I&MRL. Before that, CP. Originally Milwaukee Road. Any straight SD40 would have come via I&MRL, or elsewhere. Such as CP. Milw only had Dash 2's.
